If you have coverage through an individual or group dental insurance plan, we recommend that you speak with your provider to determine whether or not Orthodontic treatment is covered. Commonly, an insurance plan will cover 50% of your treatment, but this is often capped with a lifetime maximum benefit one time coverage, per person, per lifetime.
If you choose to pay for Orthodontics through your insurance plan, we would recommend that you keep the same insurance plan through the duration of your treatment. The reason being, is that most insurers will not cover treatments that were applied prior to their coverage beginning, as they consider it to be a pre-existing condition.
Regardless of your decision, you should be aware that any amount not covered by your insurance provider can be submitted as a tax credit on your income taxes. As with most things pertaining to insurance coverage, your best bet is to discuss your options with your insurance company. This will ensure you have all of the details you need regarding your insurance plan especially when it comes to what it does and does not cover.
